2003 Shiraz

The drought vintage highlighted by an unseasonal downpour on 20th February led to split then shrivelled berries. Thereafter, perfect dry, warm conditions for ripening of grapes.

Harvested on Thursday 20th March, the Balthazar Shiraz grapes were vinified in small, open top stainless steel fermenters for 8 days and pumped over twice daily to maximise colour and flavour extraction.

2003 Balthazar then spent 22 months maturing in predominantly French, with some American, oak hogsheads, before being bottled early March 2005.
